Press Page Tutorial

Press Page Tutorial

Kathy - The summary for the below tutorial is: The front page scan of the magazine is to be made into a thumbnail per 1b. The inside page(s) with the press on Vintageweave is to be made into large images per 1a. Both sets of images are then uploaded per instructions below into Movable Type in a certain order/way and then they will show up correctly. All instructions below.

1. Prep scans of magazines or photos thereof with Photoshop or like photo editing program:
 a. From the original image make one "large" image saved as 72dpi, a width of no more than 400 pixels. Save it to a folder on your computer with a date and mag name, such as 112007latimes.jpg (If LA times in Nov 2007). If article pages then, 112007latimespg1.jpg, 112007latimespg2.jpg, etc. (Naming convention helps for organization) See #7 for uploading multiple inside pages.
	b. Create a "thumbnail" size of the magazine front page image saved as 72dpi, height of 260 pixels and width of 200 pixels. Name the file you are saving t-112007latimes.jpg.
	c. If you have more than one image for each article, then make a thumbnail of the front cover per the directions in 1b and large images per the directions in 1a.

2. Go the the Vintageweave Movable Type admin area, Click on "VW Press", start a new entry. Give it a title (Date and Title of Magazine are best). Click on Upload image.
[These instructions are for one VW press page, for multiple magazine interior pages, please see #7]
 a. Start by Uploading the large image
 b. Add it the word "images" to the box to the right of "site root", per the photo above. This will put the image in the correct directory.
	c. Click upload.

	d. Next screen. Don't let it make a thumbnail for you, as you want the size to be the size you have already created in the photo editor.
	e. click on "Show me the HTML" and then "Embed Image."
	f. The uploader will give you some HTML Code, please copy this, and paste it into the "Entry Body" of the post. Press on the post for safety's sake.

3. In the Entry body, please make sure that the alt="imagename.jpg" in the html code is changed to be alt="Entry Title or Date Magazine name" for good Google Fu. See Photo #3.

4. Now repeat Step #2 (Upload) above for the thumbnail image of the magazine cover that you created in step #1. Copy and paste the code for the thumbnail image into the excerpt section (See image directly above). Also, due Step #3 for the alt tag in the thumbnail code, as when the post publishes this will hep the Google Fu on the main Press page. Save post for safety's sake.

5. If you want any text on the individual press page, then put all text (no formatting) into the "Extended Entry" area.

6. Save. Drop down Publish bit, save again. Refresh the Press page and the new thumbnail image will show up on the top. Click on the thumbnail to be taken to the interior page(s) of each page.

7. How to upload multiple interior pages for one magazine issue (ex. If VW has a full spread in the interior plus article.):
	a. Prep all interior scans for the magazine issue per 1a, so that there are large images for each page.
	b. Prep the magazine cover per 1b. Upload it and post it per #4.
 c. Start by Uploading one large image (400 pixels wide) at a time.
 b. Add it the word "images" to the site root, per the photo above. This will put the image in the correct directory.
	c. Click upload.

	d. Next screen. Let it make a thumbnail for you, set the width for "200" in the box, use the tab key and it will calculate the height.
	e. click on "Show me the HTML" and then "Pop-Up image"
	f. The uploader will give you some HTML Code, please copy this, and paste it into the "Entry Body" of the post. Press on the post for safety's sake.
	g. Repeat until all interior spread images are uploaded.
	h. Follow #5 & #6 above.

Have fun!
