How did it Begin?
Kathy Delgado enjoyed a lucrative and enjoyable career in commercial real estate that spanned 16 years, yet yearned for a life beyond the corporate world. While serving as a senior vice president for a major real estate developer, Kathy enjoyed many accolades and fullfilment from the incredibly fast-paced environment, however her creative edge was constantly itching its way to the forefront as she spent weekends doing what she loved most: hunting for treasures and decorating for friends and family. After receiving the acknowledgement three years running into the elite club of "Most Powerful Women in Commercial Real Estate" by a trade magazine, Kathy woke up one morning and thought that if she could have this much professional success doing something she really liked, then she owed it to herself to find out how much PERSONAL success she could obtain doing something she was over-the-moon about! She embarked upon a business plan.
During this time, Kathy met several entertainment-industry clients who greatly inspired and encouraged her to take on the role of entrepreneur. Still, she felt pangs of hesitation. Then one morning while drinking coffee in her home office she heard on the news that John Ritter had died very suddenly. The Fox newscaster lamented with Henry Winkler, Ritter's best friend, on how times like this remind us how short life is. She picked up a card provided by an early mentor; the quote provided an intense sense of clarity: "Take the road less travelled. There are no traffic jams".
And So It Began:
Although bittersweet, she left behind her "family" in real estate and dared to turn a part-time design consultancy business into a full-time venture. Armed with a French dictionary and frequent flyer miles, Kathy is often redesigning uncovered treasures found in the Puces De Saint-Ouen -- this may include complete reupholstering or a simple clean up. Days have never been more enjoyable and Kathy sends out a special thanks to the entrepreneurs she met in real estate (esp John Kilroy), and to those in the entertainment industry who served and continue to serve as tremendous inspirations by following their own passions 24/7 (esp Vince, Sherry, Barry, Jon, Happy, David C, Casey and Michael). As Michael Mann so aptly told her: "There is no distinct line between personal life and work life when you are doing what you are meant to be doing... when you are living your passion as a way of making a living." A whopping thanks to her mom & dad (two best ever), special friends, and family for believing in her talents, and a special hug to pop who plopped down the book that really got the ball rolling, What Should I Do With My Life?: The True Story of People Who Answered the Ultimate Question by Po Bronson.
